This famous red velvet cake is an annual tradition in their house and that was when I fell in love with red velvet. You even have the choice to leave out the chocolate chips and make this just a 3-ingredient red velvet cookie but we love chocolate in our house and I love how it “dresses” up these cookies.

Depending on what kind of chocolate you prefer, you can really use any type of chocolate chips you desire. From white, semi-sweet, milk or dark, any of these chocolate chips will work with these red velvet cookies.

I prefer dark chocolate but since my son Madden loves milk chocolate, I made these with him in mind. He literally won’t eat anything with dark chocolate and can tell what kind of chocolate I used in a recipe upon the first bite. I guess you can say he is our chocolate connoisseur.

Growing up I made cake mix cookies all the time but it has been like 20-years since I last made them. And then when I wanted to make a simple treat recently, it was when I remembered this recipe. I was so excited to share this recipe with my kids and they are obsessed.

Scoop dough with cookie dough scoop (or by the tablespoon) and set on ungreased cookie sheets. It’s important that the cookie sheets are ungreased.

Place the cookies in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes.
